Lok Sabha to Hold Special 16-Hour Discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’ on July 28
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha is all set to conduct a high-priority 16-hour discussion on Operation Sindoor — India’s decisive military response to the Pahalgam terror attack — on Monday, July 28, as part of the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
This special discussion, listed as part of Monday’s business by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, follows a tumultuous first week of the session that included the unexpected resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and repeated adjournments.
What Is Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor refers to India’s swift and successful military retaliation after a deadly terrorist strike in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The operation has been hailed as a symbol of India’s robust counter-terrorism capabilities and is seen as a strategic move with significant geopolitical implications.
Key Speakers and Participants
According to sources, several senior ministers and opposition leaders are expected to take part in the debate:
- Rajnath Singh (Defence Minister) – To initiate the discussion
- Amit Shah (Home Minister) – To weigh in on internal security strategy
- S. Jaishankar (External Affairs Minister) – To outline diplomatic dimensions
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi – Expected to intervene in both Houses
- Anurag Thakur & Nishikant Dubey – BJP MPs to support the government’s stance
- Akhilesh Yadav & Rajiv Rai – Representing the Samajwadi Party
- Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu & GM Harish Balayogi – Representing TDP
The discussion in the Rajya Sabha is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, also for 16 hours.
Floor Strategy and Opposition’s Stand
Opposition parties from the INDIA bloc have been vocal in demanding PM Modi’s presence during the debate. They are also seeking answers on:
- The Pahalgam terror attack
- The strategic implications of Operation Sindoor
- Allegations made by former US President Donald Trump regarding a “brokered ceasefire” between India and Pakistan
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that Operation Sindoor will be the first agenda, with other issues like the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Exercise to be taken up later.
“All issues cannot be discussed together… Operation Sindoor will be debated first, with discussions lasting 16 hours in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,” Rijiju told reporters.
The extended debate signals the strategic and political significance of Operation Sindoor. It is not only a response to terrorism but also a reflection of India’s assertive foreign and defence policies under the Modi government.
Additionally, this discussion offers a platform for both the ruling and opposition parties to outline their respective visions for national security, diplomacy, and internal stability.
