Cardiologist Warns of Silent Heart Crisis: Chronic Diseases Rising Despite Drop in Heart Attacks

Published on

New Delhi: A U.S.-based cardiologist has raised the alarm over a new and growing heart health crisis — one that is quieter, slower, and often missed until it’s too late. In a recent video posted on July 8, Dr. Dmitry Yaranov explained that while heart attack-related deaths have dropped by nearly 90% since the 1970s, chronic cardiovascular conditions are now on the rise.

“We didn’t beat heart disease — it just changed its shape,” Dr. Yaranov said, describing it as a “silent trend” that needs urgent public awareness.

Chronic Heart Conditions on the Rise

According to Dr. Yaranov, conditions like heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and arrhythmias are becoming more common, especially among aging and high-risk populations. These diseases progress gradually and often remain undetected, leading to reduced quality of life and premature death.

He credited medical advancements, awareness, and early intervention for the sharp drop in fatal heart attacks — a public health milestone he says is under-celebrated. However, he warned that the focus must now shift to these less visible, yet equally dangerous, chronic heart diseases.

“It’s not just about survival anymore. It’s about maintaining quality of life,” he emphasized.
“Early detection, prevention, and timely access to care are critical.”

Five Early Warning Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

In a follow-up video on July 19, Dr. Yaranov listed five subtle symptoms that could be early indicators of heart disease:

  • Jaw pain
  • Persistent fatigue
  • Shortness of breath during routine activity
  • Leg swelling
  • Erectile dysfunction

He urged the public to take these signs seriously and consult a doctor rather than waiting for a critical emergency like a heart attack or stroke.

Why This Matters for India

While Dr. Yaranov’s warning is based on U.S. data, the trend holds alarming relevance for India. Indian cardiologists have reported a similar rise in chronic cardiovascular conditions, particularly among younger adults.

Sedentary lifestyles, poor diet, rising stress levels, and late-stage medical intervention are contributing to this silent epidemic. With diabetes, hypertension, and obesity on the rise, India is witnessing a dangerous shift from sudden cardiac deaths to long-term heart failure and related disorders.

Experts are calling for nationwide awareness campaigns, better preventive care, and routine heart health screenings — especially for high-risk individuals in their 30s and 40s.
