Manipur Security Forces Seize 328 Guns, Warlike Stores in Major Crackdown Across 5 Districts
In a major breakthrough aimed at restoring peace and public safety, joint security forces in Manipur recovered 328 firearms and a large cache of ammunition and explosives during coordinated raids across five Imphal valley districts late Friday night.
The operations were carried out by Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), the Army, and the Assam Rifles, based on specific intelligence inputs.
Massive Arms Haul: What Was Seized
The raids, conducted on the intervening night of June 13 and 14, targeted areas on the outskirts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal districts.

Goal: Restore Peace and Public Order
The Manipur Police called the action a major achievement in the ongoing effort to restore normalcy, maintain public order, and ensure citizen safety. A statement from the police urged public cooperation in reporting illegal arms and suspicious activities.
“These intelligence-based operations mark a key milestone in our commitment to a peaceful and secure Manipur,” the police said.
Backdrop: Ethnic Tensions and Unrest
The raids come in the wake of continuing tensions in Manipur, which erupted in 2023 due to ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities.
- Over 260 people have died and thousands displaced since the violence began.
- President’s Rule was imposed in February 2025 after the resignation of CM N. Biren Singh.
- The CBI is investigating key cases related to the violence on the Supreme Court’s directive.
In June 2025, protests reignited over the arrest of Arambai Tenggol leaders—linked to alleged criminal acts during the 2023 clashes—forcing authorities to impose prohibitory orders and suspend internet services in several districts.
