Mayurbhanj: On Thursday a four-year-old boy was found murdered in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, police said the accused father has allegedly confessed that severe financial hardship and his inability to provide for his family motivated the crime.
According to police, the incident took place in Purunapani village under the Sarat police station limits. The accused, identified as Sohan Singh, has been arrested, and further investigation into the case is underway.
Mayurbhanj Child Murder: Police Reveal Alleged Motive
Speaking about the investigation, the Officer-in-Charge of Sarat Police Station said the accused told investigators that poverty and his inability to support his wife and five children led him to take the extreme step.
According to the police officer, the accused allegedly confessed during questioning that he committed the crime because he could no longer bear the family’s financial condition.
Police are continuing to verify the statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
Child Allegedly Taken from Mother’s Arms Before Attack
Investigators said Sohan Singh allegedly snatched his four-year-old son, Dumbi Singh, from his mother’s arms before attacking him with a sharp weapon.
After the incident, the accused reportedly fled the scene. Police later traced and arrested him.
The child’s death has shocked residents of Purunapani village, while authorities continue collecting evidence and recording witness statements.
Investigation Continues After Father’s Arrest
Police have registered a case and arrested the accused in connection with the alleged murder. Investigators are examining all aspects of the incident, including the family’s financial circumstances and other evidence gathered from the scene.
