The Malayalam film industry is set to welcome a new face from a celebrated legacy as Vismaya Mohanlal, daughter of Mollywood icon Mohanlal, prepares for her acting debut in the upcoming film Thudakkam. The project will be directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, whose last film 2018 was a major critical and commercial success.
The announcement was made by Aashirvad Cinemas, who shared a heartfelt post on social media introducing Vismaya:
“With hearts full of pride and eyes set on the horizon, we unveil a new voice, a fresh vision, and the dawn of a luminous new chapter… Welcome, #VismayaMohanlal.”
Titled Thudakkam (meaning The Beginning), the film marks a new chapter not only for Vismaya but also for Malayalam cinema’s next generation of talent. Though born into one of the most influential film families, Vismaya has largely kept a low profile until now.
Her debut mirrors the buzz that surrounded her brother Pranav Mohanlal’s entry into the industry in 2018 with Aadhi, directed by Jeethu Joseph. Their father Mohanlal has long stated that his children are free to chart their own paths, and Vismaya’s quiet but confident emergence reflects that approach.
Far from being just a star kid, Vismaya is a multifaceted creative — a published author (Grains of Stardust), a visual artist, and a trained martial artist in Muay Thai. Her unique background adds depth to her on-screen promise, setting her apart as a debutante to watch.
Meanwhile, Pranav Mohanlal is also in the headlines, teaming up with Bramayugam director Rahul Sadasivan for a new project titled Dies Irae, scheduled for a Halloween release.
As anticipation builds for Thudakkam, industry insiders and fans alike are eager to see how Vismaya carves her own identity in Malayalam cinema.
