New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally agreed to join the proposed Board of Peace led by US President Donald Trump, according to an announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday. The move places Israel among a growing list of nations backing Trump’s new global peace initiative, which will begin by addressing the Gaza conflict.
The decision comes as several European countries distance themselves from the plan, highlighting emerging divisions over the board’s structure and leadership.
Netanyahu Joins Trump Board of Peace Amid Global Split
The proposed Board of Peace would be chaired for life by Trump and requires each permanent member to contribute a $1 billion fee. Its first mandate is resolving the war in Gaza, with plans to later expand its scope to other international conflicts.
Netanyahu’s acceptance follows earlier criticism from Israel over Washington’s decision to include Turkey and Qatar in the Gaza Executive Board, the operational arm tasked with managing Gaza-related efforts. That inclusion had raised doubts about whether Israel would endorse the broader initiative.
Egypt Accepts Invitation, Praises Trump’s Middle East Role
Alongside Israel, Egypt confirmed its participation after President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi accepted Trump’s invitation.
Egypt’s foreign ministry said the country would complete all required legal and constitutional steps, while praising Trump’s Middle East policies. Cairo also expressed support for the Board of Peace’s role in the next phase of efforts to end the Gaza conflict.
European Nations Reject Proposal, Seek Common Position
In contrast, Sweden and Norway announced they would not be joining the board. Meanwhile, Spain said European leaders were working to consolidate a shared stance on the initiative.

As diplomatic reactions continue to unfold, Netanyahu’s decision to join Trump’s Board of Peace signals a major geopolitical endorsement, even as key allies remain divided on the initiative’s future.
