Noida: The Noida International Airport Jewar Phase 1 launch marks a major milestone in India’s aviation and infrastructure growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the airport in Uttar Pradesh, positioning it as a future global aviation hub designed to ease congestion in the National Capital Region.
With operations expected to begin soon, the project is already being seen as a strategic investment to handle rising passenger demand and boost regional connectivity.
Noida International Airport Jewar Phase 1: Key Features and Capacity
The first phase spans around 3,300 acres and includes a fully operational terminal along with one runway. This phase alone is designed to handle up to 30 million passengers annually, placing it among the largest airport developments in Asia.

The project cost for Phase 1 is estimated at ₹11,000 crore, reflecting the scale and ambition behind the development.
One of the standout features is its fast processing system. Passengers are expected to complete boarding within 20 minutes of entering the terminal, a move aimed at improving efficiency and traveler experience.
Expansion Plan to Make It Asia’s Largest Airport
The airport is planned over a total area of 52 square kilometers, which will eventually make it the largest airport in Asia once all phases are completed.
Currently, Beijing Daxing International Airport in China holds the top spot with around 47 square kilometers. The Jewar airport is set to surpass this benchmark by the time it reaches full capacity.
Noida International Airport Jewar Phase 1: Operational Timeline
Officials have indicated that commercial flight operations could begin as early as May, signaling a quick transition from inauguration to functionality.
The full development of the airport is scheduled in multiple phases, with final completion targeted by 2040.
The project is expected to play a critical role in reducing pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while also driving economic growth, job creation, and improved connectivity across northern India.
