Odisha Bandh Impacts Daily Life Across Multiple Cities and Towns: Check City-Wise Details

Published on

The 12-hour Odisha Bandh called by the Congress and other opposition parties has significantly affected normal life in several parts of the state on Thursday. The bandh was called to protest the alleged inaction in the death of a 20-year-old student who died after self-immolation, seeking justice against sexual harassment.

Here’s how the bandh affected key cities and towns across Odisha:

Bhubaneswar:

The capital city experienced massive traffic disruptions as protesters blocked major roads such as Master Canteen Chhaka, Rajmahal Square, AG Square, and Rasulgarh. Public transport, including Ama Bus services, remained largely off the roads. The National Highway was blocked at Vani Vihar and Rasulgarh, causing long traffic jams.

Berhampur (Silk City):

The bandh had a major impact in Berhampur. Shops, petrol pumps, buses, and educational institutions remained closed. Daily life came to a standstill as roads were blocked and public transport services were halted.

Bhadrak:

In Bhadrak, Congress leaders and workers stopped the Bhadrak-Daspalla MEMU train at the local railway station. All shops, markets, schools, and colleges were shut. Protesters also blocked NH-16 at Banta Chhak and disrupted traffic on the Basudevpur-Dhamra and Basudevpur-Bhadrak routes. A heavy police presence was seen to maintain law and order.

Sambalpur:

The bandh had a partial impact in Sambalpur. While trains operated normally, public life was disturbed in several pockets. Heavy police deployment was reported. Some Congress leaders reportedly fled from protest sites to avoid arrest.

Balangir:

In Balangir, the bandh led to the closure of shops and markets, and vehicular movement was disrupted. The city remained largely shut for most of the day.

Rayagada:

The bandh impacted all 11 blocks of Rayagada district. Protesters blocked roads near Kapilas Chowk and FCI Chowk in Rayagada city. As a result, vehicular movement was halted and most shops and markets stayed closed throughout the day.
