Odisha Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj Urges Citizens to Wear Traditional Odia Attire on April 3

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj has called on the people of Odisha to embrace their heritage by wearing traditional Odia ethnic attire on April 3 as part of the 14-day-long ‘Odia Pakhya 2025’ celebration, which began on April 1. The state Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Department will mark this occasion with the “Ama Poshak, Ama Parichaya” (Odia Ethnic Wear Day) program on April 3, also observed as ‘Paridhan Dibasa’ (Attire Day).

Following Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s initiative, Odisha is celebrating ‘Odia Pakhya’ for the first time from April 1 to April 14. Minister Suraj urged everyone to participate wearing traditional handloom outfits like Sambalpuri, Sonpuri, Bomkai, Maniabandh, and Kotpad handlooms, reinforcing Odia identity and heritage.

Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that Odisha’s handloom textiles are globally renowned, and wearing locally woven attire not only preserves tradition but also strengthens the state’s economy and supports local weavers. Encouraging people to wear handloom clothes beyond April 3, Majhi urged citizens to make it a daily habit to boost the rural economy and craftsmanship of Odisha.

The Odisha Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department has issued directives to all state government offices and district collectors, urging officials, employees, and the general public to wear Odia handloom clothing on April 3 to celebrate Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
