Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday highlighted a government initiative under which eligible girl children will receive financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh after completing graduation.

Majhi made the statement while addressing the state-level celebration of ‘Angan Ka Utsav’ and the ninth Rashtriya Poshan Maah at an Anganwadi Centre in Baramunda, Bhubaneswar. He also stressed the importance of family participation in children’s nutrition, health and development.

The Chief Minister said Odisha is working to strengthen nutrition programmes through Anganwadi centres and schools while promoting greater involvement of fathers and other family members in children’s care.

Financial Assistance of Rs 1 Lakh for Girls in Odisha

The Chief Minister said eligible girl children covered under the relevant government initiative will receive Rs 1 lakh after completing their graduation.

The financial support is part of the government’s broader focus on women’s empowerment and education. Majhi also highlighted initiatives including Subhadra Yojana, Lakhpati Didi, Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana.

He said development cannot be achieved without the welfare and empowerment of women and added that at least 40% of the State Government’s total budget is being spent on women.

Odisha Focuses on Child Nutrition

Majhi emphasised the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, calling for active participation from fathers and other family members alongside mothers.

He said more than 46 lakh activities were successfully conducted across Odisha during Poshan Maah. He also stated that Odisha had secured the first position in the country in Aadhaar verification.

The Chief Minister called for greater awareness and effective implementation of nutrition programmes to help build a well-nourished Odisha.

Anganwadi Workers Praised for Health Improvements

Majhi credited Anganwadi workers, Anganwadi helpers, ANMs and ASHA workers for their contribution to improving health indicators across the state.

He highlighted improvements in child immunisation and institutional deliveries, along with a significant reduction in infant and maternal mortality.

According to Majhi, Odisha was earlier among the states with the second-highest infant and maternal mortality rates, but the state has now reached a satisfactory position on both indicators.

Free Education and Healthcare Initiatives

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s education and healthcare initiatives.

He said education up to the postgraduate level has been made completely fee-free in government and government-aided educational institutions.

In healthcare, Majhi said cashless treatment facilities are available at selected private hospitals across the country under the Ayushman Bharat-Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana.

CM Reviews Anganwadi Meals in Bhubaneswar

During the programme, Majhi distributed school kits to Anganwadi children and felicitated fathers who participated in showcasing healthy food.

He also felicitated Anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHA workers.

The Chief Minister visited the Anganwadi Centre and reviewed the quality of the ‘Tiranga Thali’ and hot cooked meals being served to children. He also served food to the children.
