Odisha Government: ‘Dhadi Darshan’ at Puri Jagannath Temple

Published on

Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Tuesday that the state government is preparing to implement ‘Dhadi Darshan,’ a queue management system for the darshan of deities at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.

The suggested queue-based darshan system (Dhadi Darshan) is scheduled to be deployed by the end of this month, with the goal of streamlining streamline the flow of devotees and enhance temple discipline.

Key Highlights

  • Implementation Timeline: The Dhadi Darshan system is likely to be rolled out by the end of April 2025.
  • Objective: To improve the overall experience for lakhs of devotees visiting the temple.
  • Announcement: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced the initiative during a recent visit to Tara Tarini Temple in Berhampur.

The Minister made the announcement during a visit to the Tara Tarini temple in Berhampur, where he spoke to the media on the state government’s ongoing temple administration reforms throughout Odisha, with a particular emphasis on the world-famous Jagannath Temple in Puri.

According to Harichandan, the long-awaited Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee will be officially formed within a week. The creation of this committee is viewed as a critical step toward improving governance, transparency, and operational efficiency at the temple.

The Managing Committee will be formed within this week. After its establishment, one of the first choices expected to be granted is the request to relocate the temple hundis (contribution boxes). This process will be carried out only after gaining the required nod from both committees and Odisha Government.

The proposed Dhadi Darshan system is expected to bring order to the current free-flow format and ensure safety, especially during festivals and peak hours.
