Odisha Government Initiates Crackdown Against Students Driving

Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA), Odisha, launched a special enforcement drive against underage driving, on Tuesday. The special drive will be attentive in the areas near schools and colleges. The special drive will be continue until April first week. Additional Commissioner, STA Lalmohan Sethi on Monday said.

As per STA, strict action will be taken against the violators and a fine of Rs 25,000 will be imposed for driving without a license during the special drive.

A case will be registered against the owner of the vehicle and he/she shall be forwarded to court, he said. Also the registration of the vehicle shall be cancelled in case of underage driving, he added it.

Data of minor boys and girls caught during the drive shall be uploaded on the Sarathi server database as a result of which they will not be issued driving licences till they attain the age of 25, he added.

Additional commissioner of enforcement of STA, also informed that 767 cases of drunken driving were reported during a special drive on drunken driving.

Several cases were also registered against violators and about 5,081 people died in road accidents in 2021 in Odisha and the number stood at 5,467 in 2022, he said. Among the deceased in road accidents in 2021, there are 132 minor boys and 23 minor girls.
