Bhubaneswar: In response to the shocking incident in Puri district, where a 15-year-old Plus II girl was set ablaze by three miscreants, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has assured that the state government will bear all medical expenses for the victim, currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Expressing deep anguish and concern, Deputy CM Parida took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“I am deeply pained and shocked to hear about the brutal attack on a 15-year-old girl in Balanga area of Puri district. The victim has been shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, and all arrangements are being made for her treatment. The state government will bear all medical expenses.”
Strict Action Against Culprits Ordered
Parida also instructed the police administration to ensure the immediate arrest of those involved and to initiate stringent legal action. The attack, which took place on Saturday morning in Bayabari village under Balanga police station, has caused widespread outrage across the state.
Sequence of the Incident
According to eyewitness accounts, the young girl was walking to her friend’s house when she was intercepted by three bike-borne youths. They reportedly poured a flammable substance on her and set her on fire, leaving her grievously injured. Locals rushed her to Pipili Hospital, from where she was later referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar due to the critical nature of her burns.

This heinous act follows closely after a recent self-immolation incident in Balasore, raising serious concerns about women’s safety in the state. Citizens and activists alike are calling for swift justice and tougher enforcement of women’s protection laws.
