Shocking Crime in Puri: Plus II Girl Set on Fire by Miscreants in Broad Daylight

Published on

Bhubaneswar: In a deeply disturbing incident, a Plus II girl student was set ablaze by three miscreants while she was on her way to a friend’s house in Bayabara village, under Nimapara Block in Puri district, on Saturday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the girl was intercepted by bike-borne attackers, who poured a flammable liquid on her and set her on fire before fleeing the scene. The horrific attack occurred just 5–7 km from Balanga police station, highlighting serious safety concerns in the area.

Locals Rush to Help; Victim Shifted to AIIMS

Hearing her screams, local residents rushed to the scene and immediately took the girl to Pipili Hospital. Due to the severity of her burn injuries, she has since been referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.

Police Begin Investigation; Motive Yet to Be Established

The Balanga police have launched a probe to identify and apprehend the culprits. Authorities are examining possible motives and gathering witness statements. No arrests have been made at the time of this report, and further updates are awaited.

Community in Shock

The brutal attack has sent shockwaves across the region, triggering widespread panic and sparking fresh concerns about women’s safety in Odisha. The crime comes close on the heels of another disturbing case — the attempted self-immolation of a student from Fakir Mohan College in Balasore, which had already stirred outrage.

The community is now demanding immediate justice and stronger preventive measures to protect young women and ensure public safety.
