BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha rain alert has been intensified after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast widespread heavy rainfall across the state over the coming days. A Red Warning has been issued for July 17, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall in several districts, while Orange and Yellow warnings remain in force across large parts of Odisha.
The weather agency has advised district administrations and residents to remain vigilant as intense rainfall may trigger waterlogging, flash floods and disruptions to transport and essential services.

Extremely heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in:

Orange Warning (July 17)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in:

- Sundargarh
- Jharsuguda
- Bargarh
- Dhenkanal

- Balangir
- Kalahandi
- Kandhamal
- Nabarangpur
- Rayagada

Yellow Warning (July 17)
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in:

- Bhadrak
- Jajpur
- Kendrapara

According to the IMD, the Orange Warning will continue on July 18 for:
- Sundargarh
- Jharsuguda
- Bargarh
- Sambalpur
- Sonepur
- Nuapada
- Balangir
A Yellow Warning has also been issued on July 18 for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.
On July 19, heavy rainfall is likely in:
- Balasore
- Sundargarh
- Jharsuguda
- Bargarh
- Sambalpur
- Deogarh
- Keonjhar
- Mayurbhanj
- Sonepur
- Boudh
- Nuapada
- Balangir
The Yellow Warning will remain in effect:
- July 20: Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
- July 21: Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Odisha Rain Alert: IMD Advises Residents to Stay Vigilant
The IMD has cautioned that the expected heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging, localised flooding, rising river levels and disruptions to road transport, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
Residents have been advised to monitor official weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and follow instructions issued by local authorities. District administrations have also been asked to remain prepared for any emergency response as Odisha braces for another spell of monsoon-heavy weather.
