BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha rain damage compensation process has been initiated after heavy rainfall affected several districts across the state. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday said the government will provide immediate financial assistance to people whose houses or agricultural land have suffered damage due to incessant rain.

The Minister said the government is committed to ensuring timely relief and that compensation will be provided even if only a single house or a single agricultural plot in a block has been affected.

Odisha Government Begins Damage Assessment

Speaking to reporters, Pujari said continuous rainfall over the past week has caused damage in several parts of the state, with Balangir, Cuttack and coastal districts among the worst affected.

He said people living in vulnerable areas have been shifted to shelter homes where food and other essential facilities are being provided.

The Revenue Department has instructed Collectors of all rain-affected districts to conduct field assessments and submit detailed reports on losses suffered by households and farmers. The government will review these reports before finalising compensation.

Direct Benefit Transfer for Affected Families

According to the Minister, preliminary reports have already been received from Bargarh, Balangir and Cuttack districts.

District Collectors have been directed to prepare beneficiary lists along with verified bank account details to ensure compensation is released through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The Minister said this process is intended to speed up relief distribution and ensure financial assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries without delay.

Crop Losses at Early Cultivation Stage Also Covered

Pujari clarified that farmers will not be denied assistance simply because crop damage occurred at the beginning of the cultivation season.

He said agricultural losses reported during the early stages of cultivation will also be considered for compensation under the government’s relief measures.
