Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that 20 new cyber police stations will soon become operational across the state to tackle the rising number of cyber crime cases. The initiative aims to strengthen law enforcement and enhance public safety in the digital space as online threats continue to grow rapidly.
Cyber Safety Campaign Odisha-2025 Focuses on Digital Awareness and Prevention
While launching the Cyber Safety Campaign Odisha-2025 at a state-level function, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that awareness remains the most effective tool against cyber threats. He stated that people must be educated about safe digital practices to protect themselves from online scams, phishing, and frauds. “Our government is committed to building a cyber-aware society that can defend itself from emerging digital risks,” Majhi said.
Odisha to Get 20 New Cyber Police Stations to Strengthen Law Enforcement
The Chief Minister confirmed that 20 new cyber police stations will soon become operational in different districts to strengthen cyber policing infrastructure. Along with this, the existing 14 cyber police stations will be upgraded with modern technology and advanced investigation tools. This step will help officers respond faster to online frauds and data theft incidents.
India’s Digital Growth Calls for Strong Cybersecurity Measures
Highlighting the country’s rapid digital expansion, Majhi mentioned that nearly 82 crore people, or 55 percent of India’s population, use the internet, making India the second-largest online user base in the world. “As people increasingly depend on digital systems, the risks of cybercrime and online frauds rise equally fast,” he said, calling for continuous vigilance and stronger cybersecurity initiatives at both state and national levels.
Odisha Government’s Roadmap for Cyber Crime Prevention
Majhi revealed that the state government has planned the recruitment of 1,127 new police personnel and 170 technical experts to strengthen the cybersecurity framework. A state-level command center under the Crime Branch will also be set up to serve as a centre of excellence for cyber crime prevention. This command center will coordinate with district-level units to ensure faster detection and response to cybercrime cases. “Odisha is fully committed to ensuring a secure digital environment for its citizens,” Majhi concluded.
