Kataka/Sambalpur: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Umakant Samantaray, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers in Sambalpur, in an alleged disproportionate assets case.
According to Vigilance, the officer was found to be in possession of assets allegedly beyond his known sources of income. He is scheduled to be forwarded to the Court of Special Vigilance Judge, Sambalpur.
The arrest followed searches conducted by Vigilance teams at multiple properties linked to the officer.
Odisha Vigilance Detects Multiple Assets
During the searches, Vigilance officials reportedly detected several properties and financial assets that Samantaray allegedly could not satisfactorily explain.
The assets listed by the agency include:
- Four multi-storeyed buildings, including two in Bhubaneswar and one in Puri
- One 3-BHK flat
- 30 high-value plots
- 300 grams of gold
- Bank deposits worth Rs 36.78 lakh
- One four-wheeler
The searches were conducted as part of the investigation into the alleged possession of assets disproportionate to the officer’s known sources of income.
Case Registered Under Prevention of Corruption Act
A case has been registered at the Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station as Case No. 18/2026.
The case has been filed under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the officer.
Vigilance said further investigation is underway to establish the source and nature of the assets identified during the searches.
Umakant Samantaray to Be Produced in Vigilance Court
Following his arrest, Samantaray will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Sambalpur.
The allegations against the officer are subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial process. Vigilance officials are continuing to examine the financial records, properties and other assets identified during the searches.
