BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha weather alert has been intensified after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red warning for six districts, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall from July 26. The warning follows the formation of a low pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, which is expected to strengthen and significantly enhance monsoon activity across the state over the coming days.

With widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely to affect several districts, authorities have advised residents to stay alert and follow weather advisories, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas.

Odisha Weather Alert, Six Districts Under Red Warning

According to the IMD, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Katak and Kendujhar have been placed under a red warning for July 26, with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rain at isolated locations.

An orange warning has been issued for Balasore, Sundargarh, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for Jharsuguda, Bargada, Sambalpur, Deogada, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Ganjam, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.

The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph across many parts of the state.

Heavy Rain Likely to Continue Until July 29

The weather department expects the rainfall intensity to remain high on July 27, with orange warnings continuing for several districts in northern and central Odisha. Additional yellow warnings have also been issued for districts likely to receive heavy rain.

On July 28, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to persist in parts of western and northern Odisha, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely across several regions.

Odisha Weather Alert, IMD Advises Caution

The IMD said rainfall activity is expected to gradually reduce from July 29, although isolated heavy showers may continue until August 1. Residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged and low-lying areas, monitor official weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
