  • Orange alert has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha weather update indicates that monsoon activity will remain active across the state until August 2, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts. The weather system is being driven by a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining West Bengal and north Odisha coast, which has already produced widespread rain over the past two days.

The prolonged spell of rain is expected to increase the risk of waterlogging in low-lying areas and may disrupt normal life in some districts. Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories.

Odisha Weather Update, Orange Alert for Four Districts

The IMD has issued an orange alert valid till 8:30 AM on July 29 for the following districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places:

  • Sundargarh
  • Jharsuguda
  • Bargarh
  • Sambalpur

Residents in these districts have been advised to prepare for intense rainfall and possible localised flooding.

A yellow warning has also been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph across several districts from July 29 to July 30 and July 30 to July 31, including:

  • Balasore
  • Bhadrak
  • Jajpur
  • Kendrapara
  • Jagatsinghpur
  • Cuttack
  • Sundargarh
  • Jharsuguda
  • Bargarh
  • Keonjhar
  • Mayurbhanj
  • Nuapada
  • Gajapati
  • Ganjam
  • Puri
  • Khordha
  • Nayagarh

Heavy Rain to Continue Into August

The IMD has forecast another spell of heavy rainfall on August 2, issuing a yellow alert for:

  • Sundargarh
  • Keonjhar
  • Mayurbhanj

The weather department said the deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal will continue to influence weather conditions, supporting widespread rainfall across Odisha over the coming days.

Odisha Weather Update Advises Public to Stay Alert

The IMD has urged residents to keep track of official weather bulletins, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and remain cautious during thunderstorms. People living in low-lying and waterlogged areas have been advised to take necessary precautions, while those outdoors should stay safe from lightning and strong winds as monsoon conditions persist across the state.
