Pakistan Launches New Army Rocket Force After Operation Sindoor to Counter India’s Missile Edge

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared the formation of a dedicated Army Rocket Force on the eve of the country’s Independence Day, marking a significant military upgrade aimed at boosting Pakistan’s missile warfare capabilities. The decision follows the four-day military conflict after Operation Sindoor, in which Pakistan reportedly sustained heavy losses from Indian missile strikes.

Sharif said the newly formed Army Rocket Force will be armed with cutting-edge technology, describing it as a milestone in strengthening the Pakistan Army’s overall combat readiness. According to Reuters, a senior security official confirmed that this new force will operate under its own specialized command, entirely focused on the handling, deployment, and operational readiness of missile systems during conventional warfare. The official added, “It is obvious that it is meant for India.”

Reasons Behind the Creation of the “army rocket force pakistan”

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the intense May 2025 conflict, when India’s advanced missile defense network—particularly the S-400 surface-to-air system—successfully intercepted multiple Pakistani missiles. This exposed Pakistan’s technological gap in missile warfare, prompting the urgent need for a dedicated rocket force.

India’s missile capabilities currently surpass Pakistan’s in terms of range, speed, and precision. Notable Indian systems include the Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile, with a range of over 5,000 km, and the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, capable of speeds up to Mach 3, with a hypersonic version in development. These systems have no direct counterparts in Pakistan’s arsenal.

Capabilities and Strategic Role of the “army rocket force pakistan”

Pakistan’s longest-range missiles—such as the Shaheen-III (2,750 km) and Ababeel (2,200 km, with MIRV capability still unproven)—fall short in range, versatility, and speed when compared to India’s arsenal. The new Army Rocket Force is intended to close this gap by consolidating Pakistan’s missile units under one specialized command, enabling faster decision-making and more effective deployment during conflict.

During the May hostilities, India used BrahMos missiles to strike strategic Pakistani airbases, delivering a decisive blow that shifted the course of the conflict. This tactical disadvantage highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability, making the development of a specialized rocket force a strategic necessity.

With the Army Rocket Force now in motion, Pakistan is signaling its determination to enhance its missile deterrence and regional military standing, potentially altering the balance of power in South Asia.
