The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has implemented new rules from November 1, 2025, to simplify the Aadhaar update process. Among the key changes, the government has made Aadhaar-PAN card linking compulsory for all PAN holders.
Last Date for Aadhaar-PAN Linking
The deadline to link your Aadhaar and PAN card is December 31, 2025.
If you fail to complete the linking before this date, your PAN card will be deactivated from January 1, 2026, as per the UIDAI and Income Tax Department guidelines.
A deactivated PAN will cause restrictions in banking transactions and issues while filing income tax returns or other financial operations.
How to Link Your Aadhaar and PAN Card
You can link your Aadhaar and PAN card in two ways — through SMS or the e-Filing portal.
1. SMS Method
Send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 in the following format:UIDPAN<space><12-digit Aadhaar><space><10-digit PAN>
Example:UIDPAN 111122223333 AAAPA9999Q
The system will link your Aadhaar and PAN if the name and date of birth match in both records.
2. e-Filing Portal Method
- Visit the official portal: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
- Log in using your registered username and password.
- Click ‘Link Aadhaar’ on the left side of the dashboard.
- Enter your PAN number and Aadhaar number, then click ‘Validate’ to complete linking.
The linking will be successful if your details match in both documents.
How to Check Aadhaar-PAN Linking Status
- Log in to the e-Filing portal.
- Click on ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ from the left panel.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers.
- Click ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’ to verify whether the two are linked.
