Parliament Adjourned Amid Opposition Uproar Over Pahalgam Terror Attack

Published on

New Delhi: Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till tomorrow following persistent disruptions by opposition members demanding urgent discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

Lok Sabha Witnesses Multiple Adjournments Amid Uproar

The Lok Sabha was adjourned three times during the day. When the House reconvened at 4 PM after the third adjournment, opposition parties including the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, and others raised slogans and disrupted proceedings.

The Presiding Officer appealed to the members to maintain order and allow discussions on scheduled legislative business. Despite assurances from the government regarding readiness for discussion, continued sloganeering forced the Chair to adjourn the House till tomorrow.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the government is open to discussion on all important issues raised by the opposition. His remarks were echoed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who urged members to allow the House to function smoothly.

However, the opposition continued protesting, forcing repeated adjournments—first at noon, then again at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

House Pays Tribute to Pahalgam Attack Victims and Others

Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha paid tribute to:

  • Victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack
  • Passengers who lost their lives in the Air India AI-171 crash
  • People affected by natural disasters across various states

Speaker Om Birla also congratulated ISRO and Group Captain Subhanshu Shukla for his successful mission to the International Space Station, and announced a detailed discussion on this achievement would be scheduled in the House.

The opposition demanded that Operation Sindoor—an ongoing security operation—and the recent Pahalgam terror attack be discussed immediately. Their demands, however, turned into a protest when the discussion was not taken up right away, leading to ruckus and multiple adjournments.
