PM Modi, Israel PM Netanyahu Discuss Regional Situation, Reaffirm Zero Tolerance on Terrorism

Leaders review momentum in India–Israel ties, focus on strategic partnership, security cooperation and peace in West Asia.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, with both leaders discussing ways to further strengthen the India–Israel strategic partnership and reviewing the regional situation in West Asia.

During the call, the two leaders reaffirmed their shared resolve to combat terrorism and expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in bilateral relations.

“Glad to speak with my friend, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and convey New Year greetings to him and the people of Israel. We discussed ways to further strengthen the India–Israel Strategic Partnership in the year ahead,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

“We also exchanged views on the regional situation and reaffirmed our shared resolve to fight terrorism with greater determination,” he added.

India Israel Strategic Partnership Strengthened Through High-Level Engagements

The latest interaction follows a series of high-level diplomatic engagements between the two countries in recent weeks. On December 17, 2025, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Prime Minister Netanyahu in Jerusalem and conveyed warm greetings from PM Modi.

During the meeting, both sides discussed enhancing cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including technology, economy, skills and talent development, connectivity and security. Jaishankar later said the discussions reflected the depth and growing scope of the bilateral relationship.

“Deeply appreciate the call on Prime Minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem this evening. Extended warm wishes of PM Narendra Modi. Discussed deepening cooperation in technology, economy, skills and talent, connectivity and security,” Jaishankar posted on X.

Netanyahu also acknowledged the meeting, saying he had met India’s External Affairs Minister in Jerusalem and discussed bilateral issues.

Regional Situation and Counter-Terrorism Cooperation

During PM Modi’s telephonic conversation with Netanyahu, both leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia. According to officials, the discussion underscored shared concerns over regional stability and security.

The Prime Minister’s Office said both leaders strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reiterated a zero-tolerance approach towards terror activities. PM Modi also reaffirmed India’s support for efforts aimed at achieving a just and durable peace in the region.

India Israel Strategic Partnership Reviewed With Israeli Leadership

As part of his visit, EAM Jaishankar also met Israeli President Isaac Herzog, where both sides reviewed the India–Israel strategic partnership and its continued advancement.

“Honoured to call on President Isaac Herzog of Israel today. Conveyed warm greetings of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussed our Strategic Partnership and its continued deepening,” Jaishankar said, adding that India reaffirmed its steadfast support for enduring peace in the region.

Earlier, on December 10, PM Modi had also received a telephone call from Netanyahu, during which the two leaders discussed developments in West Asia and reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

According to the PMO, both leaders expressed satisfaction at the sustained momentum in the India–Israel Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation for mutual benefit. PM Modi also reiterated India’s support for early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan and broader efforts towards regional peace.
