PM Modi Kerala and Tamil Nadu Projects: Major Developments in Kerala

In Kerala, one of the biggest projects is the foundation stone laying for a polypropylene unit at the Kochi refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

The project involves an investment of more than ₹5,500 crore and will have a capacity of 400 kilo tonnes per annum. The facility is expected to boost domestic polymer production and reduce dependence on imports.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate two important highway upgrades on National Highway 66:

  • Six laning of the Thalapady–Chengala stretch costing over ₹2,650 crore
  • Six laning of the Kozhikode bypass from Vengalam to Ramanattukara costing about ₹2,140 crore

These projects are expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve logistics connectivity in northern Kerala.

Railways and Renewable Energy Projects

Several railway and energy initiatives will also be launched.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate redeveloped railway stations including Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram and Changanassery under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

He will also dedicate the Shoranur–Nilambur railway electrification project and flag off a new train service between Palakkad and Pollachi.

Another major initiative is the foundation stone laying for a 50 MW floating solar power project in West Kallada, Kollam district, aimed at supporting India’s renewable energy transition.

In Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister will launch projects worth around ₹5,650 crore.

A key project includes the city gas distribution network by Bharat Petroleum in the Nilgiris and Erode districts with an investment of over ₹3,680 crore.

The network is expected to:

  • Provide piped natural gas to more than 8.8 lakh households
  • Supply gas to over 200 commercial establishments
  • Establish more than 200 CNG stations

The Prime Minister will also dedicate a lube blending plant at Manali in Chennai developed by Indian Oil Corporation at a cost of about ₹1,490 crore.

New Trains and Rural Road Connectivity

  • Inauguration of 89 rural roads covering 370 km under PMGSY
  • Foundation stone laying for a greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram on NH-81
  • Flagging off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, along with two express trains and a passenger train service

These rail projects will strengthen connectivity between Tamil Nadu and other states such as Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala.

Why These Projects Matter

The data suggests the combined infrastructure investment is designed to improve regional logistics networks and support economic growth across southern India.

What the market is missing is that integrated infrastructure projects across highways, railways and energy sectors often create long term economic benefits by improving trade routes, industrial supply chains and employment opportunities.
