PM Narendra Modi’s Five-Nation Tour to Strengthen Global South Ties and Strategic Partnerships

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a five-nation tour beginning Wednesday, covering Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. The tour aims to reinforce India’s growing strategic, economic, and development partnerships with countries across Africa and Latin America, and to promote cooperation among the Global South.

Ghana (2–3 July)

PM Modi will begin his tour with a first-ever bilateral visit to Ghana, where he will hold talks with President Nana Akufo-Addo. The visit will focus on strengthening cooperation in economic development, defence, energy, and development partnerships. The two sides will also review the strong bilateral relationship and explore new areas of collaboration.

Trinidad and Tobago (3–4 July): Strengthening Caribbean Ties

In the second leg, Prime Minister Modi will visit Trinidad and Tobago, where he will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. During the visit, he is also expected to address a Joint Session of the Parliament, a rare diplomatic honour reflecting the strength of bilateral ties.

Argentina Visit (4–5 July): Focus on Trade, Energy, and Defence

The third stop of the tour will be Argentina, where PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Javier Milei. The leaders will review ongoing collaborations and explore new partnerships in defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment.

Brazil (6–7 July): BRICS Summit and Bilateral Talks

In Brazil, PM Modi will attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from 6–7 July. The summit, themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” will see discussions on:

  • Global governance reforms
  • Peace and security
  • Responsible AI use
  • Climate action and health
  • Economic and financial cooperation

Modi will also hold bilateral talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia, focusing on expanding the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership in areas like defence, trade, space, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Namibia (9 July): Boosting Economic Relations

Concluding his tour, PM Modi will visit Namibia on 9 July to deepen the already strong bilateral relationship. The visit will focus on boosting economic cooperation and expanding collaboration in key sectors, reinforcing India’s engagement with African nations.
