Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Bhubaneswar on Monday afternoon for a two-day visit to her home state Odisha. She was warmly received at the Biju Patnaik International Airport by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and other dignitaries. The ceremonial welcome also featured traditional folk dance performances, adding a vibrant cultural touch to the occasion.
President Graces AIIMS Bhubaneswar Convocation as Chief Guest
Soon after her arrival, President Murmu proceeded directly to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar to preside over its fifth convocation ceremony.
As the Chief Guest, she awarded 59 gold medals to 31 students and conferred degrees upon 643 healthcare professionals, lauding their dedication to public health and medical excellence.
Busy Schedule on Day Two: Focus on Education and Odia Heritage
On Tuesday, the second day of her visit, President Murmu will participate in multiple key events in Cuttack:
- Attend the 13th Annual Convocation of Ravenshaw University
- Lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings of Ravenshaw Girls’ High School
She will also grace the birth anniversary celebration of Adikabi Sarala Das, a revered 15th-century Odia poet and scholar, who is often regarded as the father of Odia literature.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to Odia culture and society, the Kalinga Ratna Award 2024 will also be presented by the President during this occasion.
President Murmu’s visit underscores her deep connection with Odisha and her continued support for the fields of education, healthcare, and regional heritage. Her engagements are expected to inspire young minds and reinforce the importance of preserving Odia language, literature, and tradition.
