Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module in Fazilka, Recover 27 Pistols
Fazilka: In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Ferozepur, in coordination with the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Fazilka, have busted a cross-border arms smuggling module in Fazilka, near the Indo–Pak International Border.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said the joint operation led to the arrest of two weapon suppliers and the recovery of 27 sophisticated .30 bore pistols along with 470 live cartridges.
Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module in Fazilka Busted
The arrested smugglers have been identified as Mangal Singh alias Mangali, a resident of Tejha Rahela, Fazilka, and Gurmeet Singh of Muhar Jamsher, Fazilka. Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was sourced from Pakistan through a foreign-based entity and was intended for criminal gangs operating in Punjab.
The accused were attempting to deliver the weapons to ground operatives of these gangs on the directions of foreign handlers.
Details of the Fazilka Arms Seizure
AIG CI Ferozepur, Gursewak Singh Brar, said that acting on reliable inputs, police teams carried out a secret operation near village Muhar Jamsher, close to the Indo-Pak fencing. The teams apprehended the two suspects and seized 27 pistols and 470 live cartridges, one of the largest consignments intercepted in recent times.
An FIR (No. 16, dated 11-09-2025) has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.
DGP: Links to Foreign Handlers Being Investigated
DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed that the weapons were smuggled from Pakistan and further investigations are underway to identify other members of the network. The Punjab Police, in coordination with Border Security Force (BSF), are tracking both forward and backward linkages to expose the full extent of the operation.
Separate Operation in Amritsar Nabs Six More
In another intelligence-led operation in Amritsar, police arrested six members of a cross-border module. Authorities recovered six pistols and ₹5.75 lakh in hawala money from the accused.
The Punjab Police said that these back-to-back operations mark a major success in the fight against cross-border arms smuggling, strengthening the state’s internal security.
