Bhubaneswar: With preparations in full swing for the grand Rath Yatra 2025 in Puri, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safe and comfortable transit of millions of devotees expected to attend the world-famous chariot festival.
To accommodate the heavy footfall, ECoR has set up dedicated pilgrim waiting areas and mela sheds at Puri railway station, offering a combined holding capacity of around 25,000 people.
Pilgrim-Friendly Amenities at Puri Station
The temporary facilities have been designed to address the essential needs of devotees, especially during the peak days of the festival. These include:
- Covered seating areas and shaded rest zones
- Drinking water booths
- Modular toilet facilities
- Mobile charging stations
- First aid units and medical stations with ambulance services
- Ticket counters, mobile ticketing vans, ATVMs, and ECoR Yatra Mobile App integration for real-time information
Massive Rail Network Boost with 365 Special Trains
To manage the unprecedented influx of passengers, a record 365 special trains will be operated across Odisha and neighboring states, enhancing accessibility from key cities and districts, including:
- Odisha: Rourkela, Balasore, Angul, Gunupur, Rayagada, Brahmapur
- Andhra Pradesh: Visakhapatnam, Palasa
- Chhattisgarh: Jagdalpur
- Maharashtra: Gondia
- West Bengal: Santragachhi
This extensive network aims to ensure that devotees from multiple regions can travel to Puri with ease and comfort during the Rath Yatra period.
Official Advisory for Passengers
Railway authorities have urged passengers to:
- Check train timings and seat availability via official platforms
- Use the ECoR Yatra Mobile App for real-time updates
- Plan travel in advance, especially around major events such as:
- Gundicha Yatra
- Sandhya Darshan
- Bahuda Yatra
- Suna Besha
These proactive steps by ECoR reflect a dedicated approach to crowd management, devotee safety, and service efficiency, ensuring that pilgrims can focus on their spiritual journey without logistical hassles.
