PURI: The Puri special trains service has been expanded by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to accommodate the surge of pilgrims visiting the Holy City during the Suna Besha and Adharapana rituals of Lord Jagannath’s annual Rath Yatra. Alongside regular train operations, additional services have been introduced to provide smoother travel for thousands of devotees expected to participate in the celebrations.

The move is aimed at easing passenger congestion while ensuring reliable rail connectivity from different parts of Odisha during one of the state’s largest religious gatherings.

Puri Special Trains to Operate from Multiple Locations

For the Suna Besha ritual on July 25, ECoR will operate special trains from Paradeep, Angul, Bhadrak, Talcher, Kendrapara Road, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Brahmapur, Kendujhargarh, Khurda Road and Daspalla to Puri.

After the ceremony, return special trains will depart from Puri to Talcher, Badampahar, Dhenkanal, Bangiriposi, Rayagada, Bhadrak, Angul, Gunupur, Rourkela, Daspalla, Sambalpur, Palasa, Visakhapatnam and Shalimar, allowing devotees to travel back conveniently after the festivities.

For the Adharapana ritual on July 26, additional special trains will connect Puri with Brahmapur, Daspalla, Angul, Kendujhargarh, Paradeep, Bhadrak and Khurda Road, while return services will also be available to these destinations.

Passenger Facilities Enhanced for Devotees

To manage the heavy festival rush, the Ministry of Railways and ECoR have strengthened passenger services at railway stations and onboard trains. A 24×7 control room has been set up to monitor train operations and respond to passenger queries.

Additional ticket booking counters, mobile ticketing facilities, enquiry counters and continuous public announcements have been arranged to improve passenger convenience. Authorities have also deployed crowd management measures, video display systems and dedicated waiting areas for pilgrims.

Puri Special Trains Backed by Safety and Support Services

Railway authorities have enhanced security arrangements while ensuring the availability of catering, medical assistance, ambulances, drinking water, uninterrupted electricity, sanitation and adequate toilet facilities. These measures are intended to provide a safe, comfortable and well-organised travel experience for devotees attending the Suna Besha and Adharapana rituals in Puri.
