Rahul Gandhi Accuses CEC Gyanesh Kumar of Protecting Democracy Destroyers

New Delhi: In a heated press conference on Thursday, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Gandhi alleged a software-driven conspiracy aimed at deleting millions of voters—particularly Congress supporters—from electoral rolls across India.

Claiming to possess “100 per cent proof,” Gandhi presented evidence from Karnataka’s Aland constituency while accusing the Election Commission of shielding those who, according to him, have “destroyed Indian democracy.” Although he refrained from unveiling what he had earlier described as a “hydrogen bomb” of evidence, his statements marked one of his most serious charges yet against the constitutional body.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Gandhi insisted his accusations were based on verifiable facts. “I am not going to say anything on this stage that is not backed up by 100 per cent truth,” he declared. He described the alleged deletions as part of a coordinated attack on the democratic process.

He detailed irregularities uncovered in the Aland constituency during the 2023 Karnataka elections, claiming that 6,018 fraudulent applications had been filed in the names of unsuspecting voters. Gandhi said neither the supposed applicants nor the voters themselves were aware of the deletions.

For the first time, Gandhi directly accused the Chief Election Commissioner of siding with those behind the alleged scam. “The Chief Election Commissioner of India is protecting the people who have destroyed Indian democracy,” he said, calling the development a grave threat to the constitutional framework of the country.

He further alleged that mobile numbers from outside Karnataka were used to impersonate voters, pointing to an automated software-based operation.

A case study from Karnataka raises concerns

As a case study, Gandhi pointed to how a booth-level officer discovered the issue when her uncle’s vote was deleted. On investigating, she found that the deletion was falsely attributed to a neighbor—who denied making any request. This, Gandhi argued, proves that an external force hijacked the electoral process using technology to manipulate voter data.

Political storm over Gandhi’s explosive claims

The allegations have triggered a fresh political storm, with the Congress preparing to escalate the issue both in Parliament and in public discourse. Gandhi reiterated his loyalty to the democratic process, saying: “I love my country, I love my Constitution, and I am protecting that process.”

His accusations against CEC Gyanesh Kumar are expected to intensify political sparring in the coming days, especially with elections around the corner.
