Rahul Gandhi Alleges 2024 Lok Sabha Polls Were Rigged, Says Congress Has Proof

Published on

In a bold statement that has reignited political tensions, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday alleged that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were rigged and claimed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) no longer operates independently. Speaking at a Congress legal conference, Gandhi said his party now has concrete data and documents to substantiate the allegations.

“The Lok Sabha election can be rigged and the 2024 Lok Sabha election was rigged,” Gandhi declared.
“We are going to prove this, we have the data now.”

He went on to claim that in one parliamentary constituency, the Congress examined the voter list and found 1.5 lakh fake voters out of 6.5 lakh total. “This isn’t a theory anymore; we have verified information,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi Election Rigging Claim: Voter List Manipulation, Fake Entries

Gandhi outlined a timeline of his growing suspicion about electoral irregularities, stating that doubts began forming in his mind as early as the 2014 general elections, and further intensified after Congress’ sweep losses in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.

He pointed to Maharashtra as a turning point. “We won the Lok Sabha elections there, but just four months later in the Vidhan Sabha polls, we were decimated. That was shocking,” he said. The Congress then began investigating more deeply and discovered what Gandhi called a “clear case of voter list manipulation.”

“Between Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in Maharashtra, 1 crore new voters showed up. A huge majority of those votes went to the BJP. Now I say with no doubt—we have proof,” he asserted.

ECI Hits Back: Calls Allegations ‘Baseless and Irresponsible’

In a swift and strongly worded response issued on Friday, the Election Commission of India dismissed Gandhi’s accusations as “baseless” and “irresponsible.”

The poll body stated:

“The Election Commission ignores such baseless allegations being made every day and, despite the threats being given, it asks all election officials who are working in a fair and transparent manner to not pay heed to such irresponsible statements.”

While the Commission did not directly name Rahul Gandhi, the response was clearly directed at his remarks. The ECI emphasized that India’s electoral process remains robust, secure, and transparent.

Political Impact and Reactions

Rahul Gandhi’s election rigging claim has sparked a fresh debate on electoral transparency and the integrity of democratic institutions in India. While Congress supporters have echoed Gandhi’s concerns, BJP leaders have criticized the statements as an attempt to undermine India’s democratic system and delegitimize electoral outcomes.

Gandhi also alleged that the BJP’s Lok Sabha majority depended heavily on fraudulent votes, adding, “If they had 15–20 seats less, Narendra Modi wouldn’t have become Prime Minister.”

As investigations and political posturing continue, the Rahul Gandhi election rigging claim puts the spotlight once again on electoral reforms, accountability, and the credibility of constitutional institutions. Whether the Congress Party can present irrefutable evidence remains to be seen, but the allegations have already added fuel to the charged political atmosphere.
