New Delhi: Soon after returning from Bhutan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in Delhi to meet the victims of the Red Fort car blast, which claimed 13 lives on Monday evening. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken charge of the probe into the deadly explosion that shook the area near the Red Fort.
NIA Begins Investigation into Red Fort Blast
According to security officials, the initial investigation points to a possible fidayeen (suicide) attack linked to the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). Police sources revealed that the car used in the explosion was allegedly driven by Dr. Umar Mohammad, who is suspected to have plotted the attack along with two associates.
A senior NIA officer confirmed that forensic teams have collected samples from the blast site and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the sequence of events.
PM Modi’s Visit and Assurance
During his visit to the LNJP Hospital, Prime Minister Modi met the injured victims and reviewed their medical condition with hospital authorities. He expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
The Prime Minister assured that the government would take the strongest possible action, saying,
“The conspirators behind the car explosion in Delhi won’t be spared. Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. All those responsible will be brought to justice.”
He added that he had been in constant touch with investigating agencies throughout the night to monitor the situation.
High-Level Security Review Meetings
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a series of emergency meetings to assess the security situation in the capital. Senior officials from the Home Ministry, NIA, Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Security Guard (NSG), and Delhi Police participated in the discussions. The Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir joined the meeting via video link.
Amit Shah directed agencies to “hunt down each and every culprit” involved in the attack and strengthen intelligence coordination across states to prevent any further incidents.
Following the blast, Delhi and adjoining regions have been placed on high alert. Security around key government installations, metro stations, and public areas has been tightened. The NIA is expected to release its preliminary findings within the next 48 hours.
