Renowned Odia poet and senior BJP leader Sankarsan Parida passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar. He had been battling lung cancer for several months, and despite continuous medical care, his condition deteriorated in recent days. Parida was shifted from Capital Hospital to AIIMS yesterday for advanced treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his illness.

According to hospital sources, Sankarsan Parida was receiving treatment for lung cancer at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. His health had been fragile for some time, and financial constraints reportedly hampered his treatment. The state’s literary and political communities expressed deep grief upon hearing the news of his demise, remembering him as a man of words and values.
A Distinguished Poet And BJP Leader From Puri
Sankarsan Parida held several key positions in local governance. He was elected as the President of the Puri Zilla Parishad and also served as Chairman of the Puri Sadar Panchayat Samiti. Additionally, he headed the BJP State Panchayatiraj Cell, where he worked tirelessly to strengthen grassroots-level political engagement and rural development.
Literary Circles And Political Leaders Mourn His Death
The passing of Sankarsan Parida has left a deep void in Odisha’s literary and political spheres. Leaders across party lines and members of the literary community paid heartfelt tributes to him. His poetry, known for its emotional depth and reflection of rural life, continues to inspire young writers. His dual contribution as a poet and politician will be remembered for generations.
