‘Republic of Balochistan’ trends as activists declare independence

Published on

The term “Republic of Balochistan” has surged across social media platforms after Baloch nationalist leaders made a bold symbolic declaration of independence from Pakistan. Spearheaded by prominent activist and writer Mir Yar Baloch, the move has once again drawn international attention to Balochistan’s decades-long struggle, its geopolitical significance, and growing outreach to India—especially amid escalating tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.

Mir Yar Baloch posted several messages on X (formerly Twitter), formally declaring independence and calling on the Indian government to permit the establishment of a Baloch embassy in New Delhi. He also demanded the withdrawal of the Pakistani military from the region.

In a post dated May 9, he wrote:

“A formal announcement must come soon, as the collapse of terrorist Pakistan is near. We have declared our independence and urge India to allow the opening of an official office and embassy in Delhi.”

He also appealed to the United Nations to recognize the Democratic Republic of Balochistan, urging it to convene a meeting of member states in support of international recognition. He called for the release of funds to support the printing of a national currency and passports.

Meanwhile, social media users have shared a map of an independent Balochistan along with images of people waving its flag, further amplifying the movement’s message online.
