Rishabh Pant to Bat on Day 5 Despite Injury, Confirms India Batting Coach
London: India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has confirmed that Rishabh Pant will bat on Day 5 of the ongoing Test against England, despite suffering a fractured right foot on Day 1. The announcement comes as India trails by 137 runs at the end of Day 4, with the visitors in a tough spot.
Pant had earlier retired hurt due to the injury but came back courageously to bat in the second innings and even scored a half-century, showcasing grit and commitment.
Pant’s Determination Inspires Team
“Rishabh will bat tomorrow,” Kotak said after stumps on Day 4, reiterating Pant’s fighting spirit. Though Pant has been ruled out from keeping duties, he will come in to bat if required.
His presence in the lineup could prove crucial as India look to avoid a series defeat on a challenging Day 5 pitch.
KL Rahul & Shubman Gill Show Resilience
Earlier in the day, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill provided a strong resistance, stitching together a 174-run partnership after India suffered an early collapse, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for ducks in the very first over.
Kotak praised the duo’s belief and determination under pressure. “The pitch is showing some wear and tear, but apart from the occasional turn, it’s still playable. The way they applied themselves was brilliant,” he noted.
Gill’s Growth Since Australia Tour
Kotak also heaped praise on Shubman Gill, who has now scored 697 runs in the series, highlighting a shift in his mindset since the Australia tour.
“From the Australia series to now, I’ve seen a visible change in Shubman’s approach. His decision-making, shot selection, and understanding of match situations have improved significantly. Credit goes to him,” Kotak added.
India will hope their middle and lower order, including a courageous Pant, can contribute enough to draw the Test and salvage the series.
