Rourkela Woman Attempts Suicide After Poisoning Daughters Over Family Dispute

Published on

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident at Bareni village under Lahunipada police station limits in Rourkela, a woman allegedly fed pesticide-laced cold drinks to her two daughters before attempting to take her own life by consuming poison.

The woman has been identified as Tarini Munda. The incident took place on Thursday evening around 8 PM. While both daughters are reported to be in stable condition, Tarini is critical and undergoing treatment.

All three were initially admitted to Banai hospital, but were later referred to the Rourkela Government Hospital for advanced care.

Domestic Violence Behind the Act

According to local sources, Tarini was facing ongoing domestic abuse and harassment at the hands of her husband, Santosh Munda, who is said to be a habitual drinker. He allegedly frequently created disturbances at home and physically assaulted Tarini.

The repeated quarrels and abuse are believed to have driven Tarini to the extreme act of poisoning herself and her children.

Police are investigating the incident, and further action is expected once Tarini’s condition stabilizes.
