SAMBALPUR: The Sital Sasthi 2026 celebrations in Sambalpur have received a major boost with the Odisha Government declaring a local holiday on June 20, the day of the festival’s grand observance.
According to a notification issued by the Northern Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), all government offices and educational institutions within the Sambalpur sub-division will remain closed on the occasion.
Extensive Security Arrangements in Place
To ensure the peaceful conduct of the festival, Sambalpur Police have deployed an extensive security network across the city.
Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said that approximately 80 platoons of security personnel have been mobilised for the event.
The security deployment includes:
- 7 Additional Superintendents of Police
- 21 Deputy Superintendents of Police
- 46 Inspectors
- 106 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors
Authorities have implemented a multi-layered security strategy to manage the large influx of devotees expected during the festival.
Sital Sasthi 2026 Festival Celebrations Reach Peak
The annual Sital Sasthi festival began on June 14 and will witness its most significant events between June 18 and June 20.
Large numbers of devotees are expected to gather for traditional rituals, marriage ceremonies and religious processions dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Special Traffic and Crowd Management Plans For Sital Sasthi
Police have coordinated with local “pada” committees to streamline festival operations and manage crowd movement efficiently.

- Special traffic diversion plans
- Designated routes for devotees
- Drinking water facilities at important locations
The measures aim to minimise congestion and ensure smooth movement across the city during the celebrations.
CCTV Surveillance Strengthened
Security agencies have enhanced CCTV monitoring at sensitive and high-footfall locations throughout Sambalpur.
Authorities have also involved experienced former officials familiar with festival management to assist in coordination and emergency response planning.
Processions to Draw Huge Crowds
This year’s celebrations will feature:
- 33 marriage processions
- 28 processions within Sambalpur Municipal Corporation limits
- 6 grand baraat processions
- 12 homecoming processions
These events are expected to attract thousands of participants and spectators from different parts of Odisha and neighbouring states.
