Sensex, Nifty 50 End Flat Amid Mixed Global Cues; PSU Bank Stocks Lead Rally

Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 ended almost flat on Wednesday, reflecting cautious investor sentiment amid weak Q1 earnings, global tariff concerns, and valuation pressures.

The Sensex gained 64 points to close at 82,634.48, while the Nifty 50 edged up 16 points to end at 25,212.05. Broader indices showed mixed performance, with BSE Midcap up 0.10% and Smallcap rising 0.28%.

Market experts attributed the sluggish trend to stock-specific movements and investor caution ahead of more Q1 FY26 earnings reports.

1. Why Did the Market Close Flat?

Investors remained cautious due to subdued Q1 earnings, geopolitical tensions, and stretched valuations. Although India’s macro outlook is stable, including easing inflation and strong monsoon, the lack of earnings upgrades capped enthusiasm.
