Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls Begins in Tamil Nadu: Dr L Murugan

Published on

Chennai: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan announced the commencement of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu from today.

Speaking to the media in Chennai, the Minister said that the SIR exercise is essential to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the State’s voter list. The process includes identifying duplicate entries, removing names of deceased persons, and updating other relevant voter information.

Aim to Ensure Clean Electoral Rolls

Dr Murugan emphasized that the revision aims to guarantee that every eligible citizen can exercise their voting rights responsibly and without discrepancies. He cited the Bihar SIR process, where over six lakh additional and fake voters were identified and removed, as an example of the initiative’s success.

Political Remarks and Allegations

During his media interaction, Dr Murugan accused the ruling DMK of irregularities and called for a CBI inquiry into alleged job cheating and paddy procurement scams. He said the government must ensure transparency and accountability in all sectors.

The ongoing Special Intensive Revision drive in Tamil Nadu is expected to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process ahead of upcoming elections.
