STOCK MARKET TODAY: Sensex Drops 375 Points Amid Volatility; Nifty Ends Below 25,150

Indian equity benchmarks ended Thursday’s trading session on a weak note, weighed down by global uncertainty and concerns over corporate earnings. The Sensex fell by 375 points or 0.45% to close at 82,259, while the Nifty 50 slipped nearly 100 points or 0.40% to settle at 25,111.

Broader Market Outperforms Benchmarks

Despite the decline in frontline indices, broader markets showed resilience. The BSE Mid-Cap index edged up by 0.07%, and the Small-Cap index gained 0.30%, indicating selective buying interest outside large caps.

Tech Stocks Lead Losses, Tata Steel Gains

In the Sensex pack, 23 of the 30 constituents ended in the red.
Top losers included:

  • Tech Mahindra: down 2.76%
  • Infosys: down 1.61%
  • HCL Tech: down 1.20%

Top gainers were:

  • Tata Steel: up 1.62%
  • Trent: up 0.68%
  • Titan: up 0.46%

Sectoral Indices Mixed; IT Drags, Power Shines

At the BSE sectoral level, 11 sectors ended in negative territory.
Notable losers:

  • Focused IT: down 1.47%
  • IT: down 1.33%
  • Teck: down 1.06%

Gainers included:

  • Power: up 1.22%
  • Metal: up 0.62%
  • Commodities: up 0.42%

Market Breadth Slightly Negative

The overall market breadth at the BSE was marginally negative.

  • Declining stocks: 2,040
  • Advancing stocks: 2,007
  • Unchanged: 152

At the National Stock Exchange, 71 companies touched 52-week highs, while 19 hit 52-week lows, signaling a mixed sentiment across the board.
