Published on

On September 27, 2022, the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, hosted two successful test launches of the Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). In collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Indian Industry Partners, the Hyderabad-based Research Centre Imarat (RCI) of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) designed and developed the Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPAD) known as VSHORADS.

Numerous cutting-edge technology are included into the VSHORADS missile, including a miniaturised Reaction Control System (RCS) and integrated avionics that have been successfully tested. A twin thrust solid motor powers the missile, which is designed to destroy low-altitude aerial threats at close ranges. To ensure easy mobility, the missile design, including the launcher, has been highly optimised.

Hon’ble Raksha Mantri, Shri Rajnath Singh complimented and appreciated the efforts of DRDO and industry partners and said that this new missile equipped with modern technologies will give further technological boost to the Armed Forces. Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO congratulated the entire VSHORADS team for this tremendous success.
