TCS to Cut Over 12,000 Jobs Amid AI Shift and Market Challenges

Published on

Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, has announced it will slash its workforce by 2%—approximately 12,200 jobs—during the financial year 2026. The majority of the job cuts will impact middle and senior management roles, the company stated in a press release on Sunday.

AI, New Markets Drive Strategic Workforce Changes

TCS cited ongoing efforts to restructure operations, upskill employees, and enter emerging markets as key factors behind the downsizing. The company emphasized that it is redeploying and retraining talent, but a significant portion of the workforce will be affected as AI adoption and automation reduce the need for traditional roles.

“This transition is being planned with due care to ensure there is no impact on service delivery to our clients,” company said in a statement.

India’s $283 billion IT industry is under pressure as global clients delay non-essential tech projects, citing slow demand, inflation, and uncertainty over US trade policies.

TCS CEO K Krithivasan recently acknowledged delays in client decision-making and project initiations, signaling a challenging year ahead for the IT giant.
