Seema Makes History with 5000m Silver at World University Games

Indian athlete Seema made history at the World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr by becoming the first Indian woman to win a medal in the 5000m final. She secured a silver with a season-best time of 15:35.86, her second-fastest ever in the event.

In archery, Sahil Jadhav secured gold in the men’s compound individual event. Earlier, Preneet Kaur earned silver in the women’s compound final, while the compound teams took mixed team gold, men’s team silver, and women’s team bronze.

Praveen Chitravel won silver in the triple jump, impressing with a 16.66-meter leap on his second attempt. India’s overall medal count has now reached nine at the multi-city games held across six German cities, showcasing a strong performance so far.

The 32nd World University Games continue in Germany, with India building on its success from the 2023 Chengdu edition. India’s best-ever finish last time was seventh place, with a total haul of 26 medals, setting a high benchmark for this year’s competition.
