Thailand Cambodia Agree to Ceasefire: In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, ending five days of deadly border conflict.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Putrajaya, Prime Minister Anwar declared:
“There will be an immediate and unconditional ceasefire with effect from midnight tonight. This is final.”

Anwar, who currently holds the Chairmanship of ASEAN, hosted the urgent trilateral peace talks involving Thai Acting PM Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian PM Hun Manet.

Clashes Leave 35 Dead, Over 260,000 Displaced

The ceasefire follows intense border clashes over the past five days, which have claimed at least 35 lives and forced more than 260,000 civilians to flee their homes near the Thailand-Cambodia border.

Reports indicated artillery shelling and airstrikes, with civilian infrastructure being heavily affected. The humanitarian situation was worsening before today’s breakthrough.

Military Commanders to Meet for De-escalation Talks

As part of the agreement, military officials from both nations will hold a formal meeting on Tuesday to establish de-escalation protocols and restore stability along the border.

The meeting is expected to involve direct communication lines, troop repositioning, and agreements on future military conduct to prevent further escalations.

ASEAN Leaders Hail Ceasefire as Step Toward Peace

Leaders across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have welcomed the ceasefire as a positive move toward regional peace and diplomacy. Anwar emphasized that the resolution was made possible through ASEAN-led mediation and the political will of both parties.

This development is being seen as a testament to ASEAN’s growing role in conflict resolution and regional stability.
