Dhenkanal: A tragic incident has shaken a rural community in Odisha after three members of the same family reportedly died following a suspected food-related illness in Itap village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Kantabania police station. The sudden deaths have raised serious concerns about food safety and household hygiene practices in the area.

According to preliminary information, the victims were Antaryami Sahu’s wife and their two young sons, identified as Pintu Sahu and Lintu Sahu. All three reportedly fell seriously ill shortly after consuming a home-cooked meal that included chicken curry and spinach. Family members noticed their condition worsening rapidly, prompting an urgent attempt to save them.

Relatives rushed the unconscious trio to Angul District Headquarters Hospital. However, doctors on duty examined them and declared all three brought dead, leaving the family and villagers in deep shock and grief.

Investigation Begins Into Itap Village Food Poisoning Deaths

Hospital sources confirmed that the bodies of the woman and her two sons have been kept at the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Medical officials stated that the precise cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Although food poisoning is suspected at this stage, authorities have not ruled out other medical or environmental causes.

Meanwhile, local police and health department officials have initiated a joint investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to the deaths. Samples of the food consumed by the family have been collected and sent for laboratory testing to check for contamination, toxins, or harmful bacteria.

Health Officials Examine Possible Causes and Safety Lapses

As part of the probe, investigators are closely examining how the food was stored and prepared. Officials are trying to determine whether improper cooking methods, spoiled ingredients, or unsafe storage conditions may have contributed to the incident. They are also reviewing whether any external factors could have triggered the sudden collapse of the victims.

Health authorities stressed that conclusions will only be drawn after scientific analysis of the samples and post-mortem reports. Until then, they have urged residents not to jump to conclusions but to remain cautious.
