WTC Points Table Updated After India’s Loss in 3rd Test vs England

Published on

London: England’s thrilling 22-run victory over India at Lord’s has not only reignited the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy but also reshaped the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 points table. The win gave England a 2-1 lead in the five-match series and pushed them into joint second place on the WTC table.

WTC 2025–27 Standings After 3rd Test

After their Lord’s heroics, England’s Points Percentage (PCT) jumped from 50.00 to 66.67, putting them level with Sri Lanka and just behind Australia, who remain undefeated with a perfect PCT of 100.

Meanwhile, India slipped from second to fourth, with their PCT dropping to 33.33% after winning just one out of three Tests in the current cycle.

Current Top WTC Standings:

  1. Australia – 100.00%
  2. England – 66.67%
  3. Sri Lanka – 66.67%
  4. India – 33.33%
  5. South Africa – In progress
  6. New Zealand – In progress
  7. Pakistan – In progress
  8. Bangladesh – 16.67%
  9. West Indies – 0.00%

Note: South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan have played limited or no matches in this cycle.

Lord’s Thriller: England Clinch Victory in Final Session

In a low-scoring, high-pressure final innings, India was chasing 193 but crumbled to 170 all out, despite late resistance.

  • Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, and Brydon Carse ripped through India’s top order, reducing them to 58/4 by Day 4 stumps.
  • Ravindra Jadeja fought hard with a gritty 42*, and Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj showed heart, but a freak dismissal of Siraj — padding a ball that rolled onto the stumps — ended India’s hopes.

First-Innings Battle: 387 vs 387

Remarkably, both teams posted identical first-innings scores of 387:

  • Joe Root led England with a classic 104, supported by Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse.
  • India replied with KL Rahul’s century, a brisk 74 by Rishabh Pant, and Jadeja’s 72.

In the bowling department, Bumrah’s five-wicket haul and Washington Sundar’s 4/22 in the second innings kept India in the hunt, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

With the series score now 2-1 in England’s favour, both teams have everything to play for — not just to win the series, but also to secure vital WTC points that could determine qualification for the final in 2027.
