Farhan Akhtar’s war drama 120 Bahadur is preparing for a landmark debut as it becomes the first film to release across India’s defence theater network, as reported by Variety. The film will hit over 800 cinema halls that cater to the country’s military community when it opens nationwide on November 21.
The story focuses on the legendary Battle of Rezang La and highlights the bravery of 120 Indian soldiers from Charlie Company of the 13 Kumaon Regiment who defended their post against Chinese troops at an altitude above 16000 feet in Ladakh in 1962. Out of the 120 soldiers, 114 laid down their lives, making the battle one of the most defining and remembered moments in India’s military history.

The film features a wide ensemble that includes Farhan Akhtar, Raashii Khanna, Sparsh Walia, Vivan Bhatena, Dhanveer Singh, Digvijay Pratap, Sahib Verma, Ankit Siwach, Devendra Ahirwar, Ashutosh Shukla, Brijesh Karanwal, Atul Singh, Ajinkya Deo and Eijaz Khan. Directed by Razneesh “Razy” Ghai, the film is backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment in collaboration with Amit Chandrra’s Trigger Happy Studios.

The wide rollout is being spearheaded by PictureTime in partnership with GenSync Brat Media. The goal is to screen the film exclusively for defence personnel and their families, strengthening a long overlooked connection between India’s armed forces and mainstream entertainment.
According to Sushil Chaudhary, founder and CEO of PictureTime, the defence audience includes 1.5 million active soldiers and more than six million viewers, yet only 30 percent of the country’s 20 million veterans and families currently have access to defence cinemas. The initiative intends to expand the network and reach soldiers in remote stations, using PictureTime’s mobile cinema units to make screenings possible even in hard to reach areas.
Calling the film a heartfelt tribute to Indian military courage, Vishal Ramchandani, CEO of Excel Entertainment, stated that 120 Bahadur is designed to celebrate the spirit and sacrifice of the armed forces. He shared that the team feels privileged knowing the soldiers whose courage inspired the film will watch it alongside their families. He also thanked PictureTime for ensuring that the movie reaches those serving the nation.

Excel Entertainment and Trigger Happy Studios will also host select paid previews on Tuesday to mark the 63rd anniversary of the Battle of Rezang La. This strategy aims to both honour the bravery of the 120 soldiers and build early buzz ahead of the official release on November 21. The film intends to immerse viewers in the real events of 1962 and pay deep respect to the men who stood their ground in extreme weather and overwhelming odds.
