53rd Dadasaheb Phalke Award: Waheeda Rehman to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023

53rd Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023: Ms Waheeda Rehman will be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2021. She has received three Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award. She is recognized as one of the top actresses in Hindi film. Rehman first earned the Padma Shri from the Indian government in 1972, and then the Padma Bhushan in 2011. Rehman has made appearances in more than 90 movies throughout the course of a career spanning more than five decades. Additionally, she has received a lot of media attention.

Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur has today noted that Ms. Rehman has received praise from critics for her performances in Hindi movies, with Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi, and a number of others standing out. Regarding her acting talent, the Minister stated that “during the course of her career, which spans more than five decades, she has essayed her characters with remarkable elegance, culminating with a National Film Award for her portrayal as a clanswoman in the film Reshma and Shera. Waheeda ji, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, is a prime example of commitment, hard effort, and the power of a Bharatiya Nari who can reach the pinnacle of professional success.

The Minister noted that the veteran actress’s award was given shortly after Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam passed away, and he said, “At a time when the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has been passed by Parliament, her being awarded with this lifetime achievement award is a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian cinema and one who has dedicated her life after films to philanthropy and the greater good of society.”

She later became well-known due to her work with Guru Dutt on the romantic comedies Pyaasa (1957), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962). Rehman had her breakthrough in the romantic drama Guide (1965), for which she received critical acclaim and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She was nominated for her performances in the comedy Ram Aur Shyam (1967) and Khamoshi (1969), and she also won an honor for her performance in the romantic thriller Neel Kamal (1968).

Waheeda Rehman won numerous honors thanks to her talent as an actor. She received the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performances in the 1965 films Guide and Neel Kamal. The actress also received the National Award for Best Actress in 1971, the Padma Shri from the Indian government in 1972, and the Padma Bhushan in 2011. Over the course of her career, which has spanned more than five decades, Waheeda Rehman has appeared in more than 90 films.
