PM Modi Highlights Role of AI in Unlocking India’s Ancient Manuscripts

Published on

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in revitalizing India’s vast treasure of digitized ancient manuscripts.

Speaking at the International Conference on Gyan Bharatam, Modi asserted that integrating AI with India’s knowledge heritage is “not just desirable but imperative.”

AI as a Tool, Not a Replacement

Acknowledging concerns about AI’s growing influence, the Prime Minister stressed that while the technology is powerful, it must never replace human expertise.

“AI cannot replace talent or human resources… otherwise we will become victims of new slavery,” Modi cautioned.

Instead, he described AI as a support system that strengthens human effort, boosts efficiency, and accelerates knowledge discovery.

Unearthing Hidden Knowledge Through AI

The Prime Minister highlighted how AI can help scholars deeply analyze fragmented texts such as Vedic mathematics manuscripts, potentially leading to the discovery of new formulas.

“With the help of AI, these ancient manuscripts can be understood deeply and analyzed. AI can also bring this knowledge to the world,” he said.

Modi further noted that India’s manuscripts are scattered across regions and catalogued differently. AI can unify these collections, enabling researchers to extract valuable insights and preserve cultural heritage.

Economic and Cultural Opportunities

The Prime Minister emphasized that digitized manuscripts can fuel global creative industries, valued at over $2.5 trillion.

These manuscripts, he said, will serve as a vast database, spurring data-driven innovation, academic research, and new opportunities for India’s youth in the tech sector.

Conference on Knowledge Legacy

The International Conference on Gyan Bharatam brought together scholars, conservationists, technologists, and policymakers to deliberate on manuscript digitization, conservation, decipherment of ancient scripts, and cultural diplomacy.

Rare manuscripts and innovative presentations were showcased, aiming to place India’s manuscript heritage at the center of the global knowledge dialogue.
